After this, we drove to a river where anyone could go for a swim to cool off. We also went through their small "animal shelter" where they have a few baby caymans in a large pool. While there, we were able to purchase Dominican-style vanilla syrup/extract.and a few other Dominican-style products. We had chicken, beans, rice, pasta, and salad. After this, we went to a different countyside home where a Dominican-style lunch was served. He also took us to a coffee hut at this countryside house where we got to taste Dominican coffee first-hand. You will find out that the cocoa bean is actually sweet and fruity in it's raw state. He also insists that you taste cocoa in it's raw state. While there, Manny showed us about the fruits of the land (mango, pineapple, cocoa etc.) and he took the time to show us how cocoa is made there. They do not rely on computers, iPhones, etc. Trust me, it is a bit of a culture shock compared to what we have in Canada/USA but I have to say, these people seem to get by with the things they have. You get to learn how they live in the countryside with the things that they have in their possession. We then went to a typical country farm house where a family typically lives. It tells children that candy is at the school.

Now, all of the candy goes to the public school and encourages children to get an education. It encourages children to beg and not go to school. In the Dominican, it is now illegal for tourists to give money or candy to children. All children have a uniform on and it is asked that you bring a large pre-packaged bag of individually-portioned candies. While in the country side, we went to a typical public school. Franklyn did the best he could to not go fast through them mind you, however, after a while we were wondering if it would ever end. You will go over a pot-hole every 2-3 seconds. If you have motion sickness issues, this tour may not be for you. We took a drive into the country side (consisting of various dirt roads with a tonne of potholes).

I have to say that I was kind of glad that the bus was not full as I found the bus kind of "cramped" as I did not really have anywhere to put my pack sack (except by putting it on another empty seat). The tour guides "Manny" and "Franklyn" (driver) picked us up at our hotel on time. My girlfriend and I took this tour while visiting Puerto Plata in April fo 2013. I am the guy who gives the goods and you make the decision if you want to take this tour or not.
